LONDON.- Photoworks announced that Louise Fedotov-Clements has been appointed as its new Director. Currently, Louise leads the National Contemporary Art Programme at Forestry England across 1500 forests, where she has implemented the strategic direction, developing creative partnership projects, residencies, publications and events at the intersection of art, design, architecture, environment and ecology, alongside the co-direction of Earth Photo together with the Royal Geographical Society and Parker Harris. Louise will take up the post in August 2023.

As Director of Photoworks Louise will lead the strategic vision and artistic direction of the organisation including exhibitions, biennial festival, commissions, learning and engagement, publishing and digital content. Previously Louise was the Artistic Director of QUAD a centre for contemporary art and film for 20 years and Co-Founder Director of FORMAT International Photography Festival for 18 years, where Louise led major international commissions, events, festivals and engagement locally, nationally and worldwide.

Andy Simpkin & David Knaus, Co-Chairs of the Photoworks Board of Trustees said: After an extensive recruitment process that saw an extremely high standard of international applicants, the Board is delighted to have appointed Louise Fedotov-Clements to lead Photoworks into its next chapter. Louise brings over two decades of experience in the photographic community, leading festivals, commissioning world-class exhibitions and opening up photography to new audiences. Louise has articulated an ambitious international vision for Photoworks and will ensure the organisation continues to champion photography and provide a crucial platform for artists and visual activists working with the medium. We look forward to Louise leading Photoworks’ talented and dedicated team to build on the successes of the organisation’s historic and existing programmes in both the national and international arenas.

Louise Fedotov-Clements says: Over the years I have been a great supporter of Photoworks for its ambition and excellence nationally and worldwide, it is an honour to be appointed Director of an organisation that I admire. Photoworks play an important role in the future of the medium through the engagement and support of diverse artists and audiences. Photography is one of the most important and accessible mediums of our time, we have the opportunity to continue to be a vibrant catalyst at the forefront of the creation and understanding of it within society and the field. I am looking forward to leading the development of the organisation, continuing the vision and bringing my passion for expanded photography together with my international, environmental and digital expertise to the team and to working with them on a dynamic, accessible and transformative programme through the awards, exhibitions, events, learning and further development of the festival.
