Contemporary art takes center stage at Roland Auctions NY two-part Estates Sale

GLEN COVE, NY.- Roland Auctions NY, having just launched monthly two-part auctions with their successful June 2nd and 3rd Multi-Estates sale, enjoyed the spotlight on Contemporary and Fine Art, while also featuring two-days worth of a huge selection of Decorative Arts, Gold and Silver Jewelry, 20th Century Modern, Antique & Vintage Furniture, Textiles, Rugs, Collectibles, Asian Art, silver and Lighting.

This particular auction was a treasure trove of moderately priced fine and contemporary art, with a great many top sellers in the art arena seeing bidding quickly shoot up past the estimates.

A Manoucher Yektai (1921-2019) Still Life oil on canvas painting of a floral still life in a vase on a table, signed lower right and dated '69. [Art: 29" H x 19" W; Frame: 32 1/2" H x 22 1/2" W], sold for $15,000, while other top sellers included a Norman Lewis (American, 1909-1979) Abstract, oil on board abstract in waves of colors, with inscription, signed lower left and dated 1964. [Art: 15" H x 19" W; Frame: 20" H x 24" W], selling for $10,625, a Richard Mayhew (American, b. 1924) watercolor landscape of a hillside with red and blue trees, signed lower left. [Art: 21" H x 14" W; Frame: 31" H x 24 1/2" W], also selling for 10,625 and a Albert Eugene Gallatin (1882-1952) Abstract, oil on board geometric abstract in colors, signed on back and dated Sep. 1945. [Art: 11" H x 9" W; Frame: 16" H x 14" W], which went for $7500.

The art extravaganza continued with a Beauford Delaney (1901-1979) Abstract - M/M, watercolor and oil painting on paper abstract in green, yellow and red, signed lower left and dated 1961. [Art: 14 1/2" H x 10 1/2" W; Frame: 21" H x 17" W], going for $7500, an Alfred Leslie (b. 1927) abstract oil on canvas in colors, signed and dated on back, 1963, with arrow pointing to top; also signed in pencil on stretcher. [Art: 17" H x 23" W; Frame: 21" H x 28" W], selling for $7500 and an exquisite Francis L. Mora (1874-1940) - Portrait of a Woman in Spanish Dress. Important portrait of a woman in Spanish attire, before Robert Henri's famous portrait of Gertrude Vanderbilt, or 1916. Signed, upper left. [Image: 30" H x 44" W; Frame: 36 1/2" H x 51" W], which also went for $7500.

Jewelry also showed well at the two-part auction, highlighted by a Ladies Necklace and Earrings With Precious Gems and Pearls. GIA certified ladies necklace containing pear shaped genuine Colombian emerald weighing 5.02 cts, 3 cabochon emeralds with a total weight of .32 cts, 39 caliber cut rubies with a total weight of 3.27 cts, 78 full cut channel set diamonds with a total weight of 2.10 cts, 70 tapered baguette channel set diamonds with a total weight of 4.30 cts, 23 baguette channel set diamonds with a total weight of 2.02 cts, and 32, 9-9.5 mml cultured pearls. This sold for $10,000, with an 18k Yellow Gold Ladies Diamond Necklace & Earrings, necklace including 105 tapered baguettes and 58 round diamonds totaling 6.7 carats, with matching earrings totaling 2.8 carats, selling for $8750 and a very unique Seaman Schepps 14K Multi-Stone Brooch. The carved soldier on horseback mounted in 14kt yellow gold as a brooch, enhanced throughout with multicolored pastel sapphires (both faceted and cabochon), unsigned, by Seaman Schepps. Engraved "H to B" and dated 1940. [2" x 1 3/8"], going for $3125. A similar brooch is in the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Standouts in other areas included a Tiffany & Co. Makers Sterling Silver Drinks Set, 8. 8-piece serving set, first half of the 20th century, by John C. Moore, II, comprising a pitcher [9 1/2" H x 6 1/2" Diam.], 6 stems [6 1/4" H], and a round tray [15" Diam.]. No monograms. 118 ozt, which sold for $5937, a Renaissance Revival Inlaid Center Table. Late 19th Century, with marquetry inlaid classical motifs and repeating borders, raised on carved gilt-accented legs. [30" H x 52" W x 33" D], also selling for $5937, a Jade Chinese Large Model of a "Galleon". An impressive three-masted vessel, carved with double dragons and four pagodas. Gold calligraphy to center sail. [30 1/2 x 39 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches), which went for $3125, a Spanish Galleon-Shaped Large Chandelier. In the Bagues manner, a 3-masted ship with gilt metal frame and allover crystal button prisms, tole flags. [38 H x 34 L x 12 W inches], going for $3125 and a French Louis XV-Style Pedestal. 19th century, gilt carved and filigree pedestal with oval shaped marble top. [39 3/4" H x 23" W x 20 1/2" D], which sold for $3437.
