Titanic Artifacts on View in Des Moines

DES MOINES, IOWA.- The Science Center of Iowa presents the exhibit of artifacts from the Titanic. Witness one of the most compelling stories of our time told as never before through authentic artifacts and room re-creations. Come explore the history, science and drama presented in an unforgettable experience. Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition takes a chronological journey through life on the Titanic, offering participants the unprecedented opportunity to experience the stories and science behind the Titanic legacy. Upon entering the exhibition, each visitor becomes a passenger and is immersed in the excitement of that memorable day in 1912 when the world’s finest and most luxurious ship set sail. From authentically recreated cabins to place settings and menus that describe the meals served onboard, participants will feel transported to the decks of this amazing vessel. As the temperature drops in the exhibition hall, participants finally come face-to-face with a real iceberg and learn about the aftermath of the disaster, exploring theories about the tragedy and discovering some of the fascinating science about the wreck and the history she holds.

Complementing each experience are more than 100 authentic artifacts recovered from the ship’s debris field. Including china used in the dining rooms to personal effects of some of the passengers, these artifacts add a poignantly personal touch to the experience that cannot be recreated anywhere else.
