Symposium - The Abstract Edge at McCord Museum |
MONTRÉAL, CANADA.- In conjunction with the exhibition Robert Davidson: The Abstract Edge the McCord Museum will host a symposium organized and presented by the Department of Art History, Faculty of Fine Arts, Concordia University, the Gail and Stephen A. Jarislowsky Institute for Studies in Canadian Art and the McCord. It will be held at the Museum on May 26, 2006, from 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm.
How do ideas and influences, both from the past and the present, inform the work of contemporary Aboriginal artists? How is this art presented, or re-presented, in mainstream media? What educative role can Aboriginal art assume for both its creators and its audience? These are some of the important and engaging questions that will be addressed as researchers, educators, and the artists themselves discuss various facets of contemporary Aboriginal arts practice.
