Mikyoung Kim, FASLA is an international landscape architect and urban designer.

FARMINGTON, CT.- Hill-Stead Museum announced the selection of Mikyoung Kim, FASLA, as the second recipient of the Theodate Pope Riddle Women in Architecture and Design Award.

This award recognizes women who have made a significant contribution to design excellence and the advancement of women in the fields of architecture and design. Theodate Pope Riddle was one of the first women architects to become licensed in Connecticut and New York and was passionate about constructing environments that encouraged an awareness of nature, learning, a sense of home and legacy. This award – given by the museum that she founded in 1947 – honors her commitment to adhering to her own ethos in a male dominated field.

Mikyoung Kim, FASLA is an international landscape architect and urban designer. She is the founding principal of Mikyoung Kim Design, a Boston-based studio whose portfolio of restorative landscapes seeks to improve public health by drawing individuals and communities outdoors to engage with and learn about the wonder of the natural world. Her work integrates the latest neurodivergent science in the design of our shared landscapes, connecting human health with environmental stewardship.

Over the past two decades, Mikyoung Kim’s large-scaled work includes Seoul’s Cheonggye River Restoration Project, the 42-acre Science Hill of Wellesley College Campus and Ford’s Michigan Central Park in Detroit. Recent restorative projects include the Crown Sky Garden in Chicago, TMC Helix Park in Houston, Bal Harbour Jetty Park in Miami and the Regenstein Nature Learning Center at the Chicago Botanic Garden.

Mikyoung has received the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Award, ASLA Firm of the Year Award and ASLA Design Medal. Her studio has been named by Fast Company as one of the most innovative architecture firms in the world. Her ideas and work on restorative design have been highlighted in The New York Times, The Washington Post, National Geographic, Landscape Architecture Magazine, Architectural Record, and Chicago Tribune along with many others.

The Theodate Pope Riddle Women in Architecture and Design Award ceremony will be held Thursday, April 24, 2025, 6:00PM at Hill-Stead Museum, 35 Mountain Road, Farmington, Ct. 06032
