YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO.- The Butler Institute of American Art opened the exhibit A Portrait of America: The Nation and Ohio (Youngstown). This exhibition of over ninety works, offers four centuries of American production from tearly liimner and Colonial era through the nineteenth and twentieth centuries to the current day. Included in this comprehensive survey are works by John Singleton Copley, Rembrandt Peale, Martin Johnson Heade, Cecilia Beau, John Singer Sargent, Mary Cassatt, Frank Weston Benson, William Merritt Chase, George Bellows, Raphael Soyer and Chuck Close. A catalogue of this unique Butler collection accompanies this show. The exhibition was funded in part by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) under the auspices of the Ohio Arts Council (OAC).
