National Museum of American Jewish History elects four new trustees to Board of Directors
Mark Oster is the National Managing Partner of Grant Thornton LLP's Not-for-Profit and Higher Education practices.



PHILADELPHIA, PA.- The National Museum of American Jewish History announces the election of four new members to its Board of Trustees: Susanna Lachs Adler, Elijah S. Dornstreich, Abbie Green Friedman, and Mark T. Oster. Ivy L. Barsky, the Museum's CEO and Gwen Goodman Director notes, "We are thrilled to welcome such dedicated and energetic new Board Members to the Museum's family. We know that each of these esteemed individuals will contribute immensely to the leadership of NMAJH in his or her own way. Each is a thought leader with important and unique spheres of influence."

Susanna Lachs Adler
Susanna Lachs Adler served as a trial lawyer for 22 years and is currently a Trustee of the University of Pennsylvania, a member of the Board of Overseers of The Penn Libraries and the Katz Center for Advanced Judaic Studies, and a former board chair and member of the Trustees' Council of Penn Women. Lachs Adler is a former trustee of Temple University, serves on the Board of Visitors of Temple University School of Law, and is a member of the Board of the Jewish Learning Venture. She is a Vice President of the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia, a member of the Women's Philanthropy Board of the Jewish Federations of North America, and is involved with other Jewish and philanthropic endeavors including Birthright Israel. She also serves as a member of the Board of the City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program. In addition, she is a member of the Board of Trustees of The Shipley School and was its previous Board Chair.

Lachs Adler was a co-chair of the NMAJH Gala in 2004. She received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and her law degree from Temple University School of Law. Her husband, Dean Adler, is a principal and co-founder of Lubert-Adler Partners and served on the Board of Trustees at NMAJH from 2001 to 2010.

Elijah S. Dornstreich
Elijah S. Dornstreich is a Financial Advisor in Bernstein Global Wealth Management's Philadelphia office. Prior to joining the firm in 2012, Dornstreich was the founder and president of Fourth Wall Arts, a nonprofit community arts company; in 2011, WHYY Philadelphia and Leadership Philadelphia selected him as a "Creative Connector" for his work there. He has also served as a vice president with Capital Business Partners, a financial services and lending firm. He is a member of the Bronfman Youth Fellowships in Israel, and also serves on its alumni advisory board. In addition, he is a member of the Jewish Business Network of Philadelphia and the Idea Coalition, a nonprofit group linking young Jewish and African American professionals. He is on the board of the American Jewish Committee and chairs its Marketing/Membership Committee.

Dornstreich has been involved with the Museum's Young Friends since 2010 and has served as Co-Chair of the Young Friends board for over a year. He also serves on the Museum's Development Committee. Dornstreich holds a BA in sociology from the University of Pennsylvania.

Abbie Green Friedman
Abbie Green Friedman maintains a private law practice which is located at Lionel Sawyer and Collins in Las Vegas, Nevada, and was previously associated with the firm. She served as an attorney at Spector Gadon and Rosen in Philadelphia. Friedman also served as an Associate at Cooper Perkskie April Niedelman Wagenheim and Levenson, P.A., and Horn Goldberg Gorney and Daniels (presently known as Fox Rothchild LLP) in Atlantic City. Prior to serving as an Associate, she worked on legislative judiciary matters in the Washington D.C. office of Senator Joseph R. Biden. Friedman serves on the Board of Directors at the Jack M. Barrack Hebrew Academy in Bryn Mawr, PA, of which she is an alumna, and the Solomon Schechter School of Las Vegas, NV. She serves on the Board of Advisors of the Shane Victorino Foundation and is a member of Nevada Women's Philanthropy and of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (Minyan Club, Congressional Club, and Legacy Level of the AIPAC Tomorrow Campaign.) Friedman is the Chair of Nevada Leadership Development for the Republican Jewish Coalition and is a former President of the Board of Directors of the Hebrew Academy of Las Vegas (now The Adelson Education Campus.)

Friedman holds a BA in History and Political Science from Temple University and received her JD from Widener University School of Law.

Mark T. Oster
Mark Oster is the National Managing Partner of Grant Thornton LLP's Not-for-Profit and Higher Education practices. He also is a Business Advisory Services principal, responsible for providing business strategy and governance, operations improvement, information technology, and business risk services to his clients. Based out of New York, he is also a member of the firm's National Leadership Team. Grant Thornton LLP is the U.S. member firm of Grant Thornton International Ltd., one of the world's leading organizations of independent audit, tax, and advisory firms. Oster is a frequent panelist and lecturer on business and technology topics. He served on the Board of Larchmont Temple, New York, for 18 years and has held various lay leadership positions.

Oster has been a member of NMAJH since 2011 and is also the Chair of the Museum's Audit Committee. His parents were both German refugees. His mother was a passenger on the St. Louis prior to her immigration to America and his father arrived on a Kindertransport.

Oster holds a bachelor's degree in Information Systems from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.
