NEW YORK, NY.- The Garment District Alliance unveiled the latest in its ongoing series of public art exhibits, titled Uncharted Territories, by Queens-based artist Natalia Nakazawa.

Located in a street-level window at 315 W. 38th Street, the free exhibit is accessible to the public from October 3rd through October 31st, and is the latest in the Garment District Space for Public Art program, which showcases local artists in unusual locations throughout the year. Uncharted Territories will also be featured as part of the upcoming 11th Annual Garment District Arts Festival, a district-wide celebration of the creative individuals, groups and companies that contribute to the unique and vibrant energy of the Garment District.

"Uncharted Territories is a remarkable installation that embodies the bold, imaginative and energetic character of the new Garment District," said Barbara Blair Randall, president of the Garment District Alliance. "We are absolutely delighted to help showcase Natalia Nakazawa's extraordinary artwork through the Garment District Space for Public Art, and hope everyone will pay a visit to this and all the exhibits of our Arts Festival."

Uncharted Territories explores the impact of climate change through imaginative dioramas. These dreamlike environments are meant to serve as moments of contemplation in the midst of an endlessly urban landscape in Manhattan.

With a passion for paintings and installations, Natalia Nakazawa through her artwork mixes signals and reconfigures meanings. Drawing upon a diverse cultural background from Japan, Uruguay and America, and an incessant desire to travel, her images seek to capture the uncanny, juxtaposing unlikely scenes together.

Natalia's work has been recently exhibited at various spaces including The Gateway Center (Newark, NJ), The Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts (New York, NY), California College of the Arts (San Francisco, CA), PLAYSPACE Gallery (San Francisco, CA), Casa de la Ciudad (Oaxaca, Mexico), Queens Museum of Art (Queens, NY), Topaz Arts Inc. (Queens, NY) and ISE Cultural Foundation (Soho, NY). Natalia received her BFA in painting from Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA from California College of the Arts.

The Garment District is home to thousands of people working in the "creative economy," including fine and performing artists, designers, architects, photographers and more than a hundred theaters, galleries, performance spaces and studios.
