BUENOS AIRES.- This October, Faena celebrates the 10-year anniversary of the Faena Hotel Buenos Aires, which over the past decade has brought about a cultural renaissance and artistic rejuvenation of Puerto Madero (Buenos Aires). Faena transformed the abandoned port into an urban enclave with the highest standards of excellence and artful living—undoubtedly one of Argentina’s most ambitious and successful real estate projects to date.

Faena’s visionary founder Alan Faena explains, “We have redefined the way we live in cities by building a strong community anchored in the fusion of art, recreation, nature, sustainable architecture and technology. After 10 years, our relationship with the community is as lively as ever.”

The Faena District inaugurated the weekend celebrations with a site-specific interactive roller disco installation by assume vivid astro focus (avaf) at the Faena Art Center and a retrospective photography exhibition of the iconic history of the district in the Cathedral hall of the Faena Hotel Buenos Aires.

Curated by Ximena Caminos, avaf has created an indoor neo-disco roller rink that takes over the Los Molinos room, the grandest exhibition space at the FAC, to create an environment that celebrates the disco era’s utopian ideals of community.

Faena Art Center will be free and open to the public, inviting both the local Buenos Aires skate community, professional roller-dancers, and the general public to participate, dance, and skate, underlining Faena’s commitment to participatory and interactive, holistic art experiences.

Ximena Caminos, Director and Chief Curator of the Faean Art Center explains, “Art institutions in the 21st century should be catalysts—to act as bridges between the local and the global. Centers for polyphony and nonlinear structures that seek to enrich our global dialogue-- structures that are democratic for the creation of new artistic practices and social functions. We created this installation to celebrate the interactions and create connectivity between individuals and art practices. To celebrate community, to open our doors to play, to dance, and to break down the barriers between culture and society.”

Speaking about the creation of immersive experiences for the viewer, assume vivid astro focus says “we want you, the music, the neons, the masks, to all become one”

The exhibition space will be open from 2 pm to 10pm everyday from October 11th -13th inviting all to join the anniversary celebrations, giving all visitors the opportunity to roller-dance to an eclectic mix of non-stop music from both national and international DJs. Our featured sound illustrator is Drag Artiste and DJ Lady Bunny. Line-up includes DJ Font, Felipe Zamorano Graffigna, Chamorro, Cisco, Novella, DJ Traviesa, Villa Diamante, SRZ, and Franky4Fingers.

As part of the 10th anniversary celebration, Faena invites everyone to participate in #Faena10. Point, shoot, share by posting photos from the roller-disco along with unforgettable moments from the last ten years of the Faena Hotel and District. Images can be shared across social media platforms and for each post that includes #Faena10 between September 30th and October 30th, 2014, Faena will donate $10 pesos to the Special Olympics of Argentina.

The Faena Hotel Buenos Aires will also mount a retrospective photography exhibition of the iconic history of the Faena Hotel Buenos Aires over the last ten years, to share the Faena story and illuminate the process, development, and success of the hotel which has since become one of the most recognizable meeting points in the city.

In its transformation of “El Porteño”, an old silo that was constructed in 1902, the Faena Hotel Buenos Aires revived the Belle Époque grandeur of the turn of the century in Buenos Aires. By bringing together the most extraordinary talent in gastronomy, entertainment, culture, and wellness, from around the world, every aspect of the Faena Hotel Buenos Aires from the individual suites to the grand public spaces, offers a unique and unforgettable experience.
