BALTIMORE, MD.- The Baltimore Museum of Art announced today seven new trustees have joined its board: Heidi Berghuis, Maya Rockeymoore Cummings, Brooke Lierman, David H. Milton, Adam Pendleton, Scott Schelle, and Wilma Bulkin Siegel. These will join Board Chair Clair Zamoiski Segal and Dorothy Wagner Wallis Director Christopher Bedford and 40 other active trustees in leading the BMA. The Board of Trustees is responsible for the governance and oversight of the museum, fostering ongoing support for the BMA’s ambitious mission and vision. This diverse group is comprised of regional and national leaders in art, philanthropy, and business who are deeply engaged and committed to ensuring the long-term strength of the museum.

“I am delighted by the enthusiasm, talent, and expertise that these new trustees bring to The Baltimore Museum of Art,” said BMA Chair Clair Zamoiski Segal. “I know their commitment to the museum’s mission and vision will help us grow as an institution.”

NEW TRUSTEES

Heidi Berghuis
Heidi Berghuis retired from a career as a financial analysist specializing in mortgage banking. She has been involved in many volunteer activities on behalf of The Women’s Board of Johns Hopkins Hospital, Park School of Baltimore, the Baltimore Women’s Giving Circle, and the Baltimore Figure Skating Club. A former BMA docent, Berghuis is an avid supporter of the arts and a collector of a wide range of artistic mediums including Chinese export armorial, early English Imari porcelain, and Canadian paintings by the Beaver Hall Group. Berghuis has an M.B.A. from Tulane University in New Orleans.

Maya Rockeymoore Cummings
Dr. Maya Rockeymoore Cummings is President and CEO of Global Policy Solutions, a Washington, DC-based policy firm that makes policy work for people and their environments. A former adjunct professor in the Women in Politics Institute at American University, Maya has also served as the vice president of research and programs at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF), senior resident scholar at the National Urban League, chief of staff to Congressman Charles Rangel (D-NY), professional staff on the House Ways and Means Committee, and as a CBCF legislative fellow in the office of Congressman Melvin Watt (D-NC) among other positions. Her areas of expertise include health, social insurance, income security, education, women’s issues, and youth civic participation. She is the author of The Political Action Handbook: A How to Guide for the Hip-Hop Generation and co-editor of Strengthening Community: Social Insurance in a Diverse America. Maya serves on the board of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare and the National Association of Counties. Maya lives in Baltimore with her husband Elijah Cummings.

Brooke Lierman
Brooke Elizabeth Lierman was elected to represent Maryland's 46th Legislative District in the House of Delegates in 2014. Brooke currently works as a civil-rights attorney at the Baltimore firm of Brown Goldstein and Levy LLP, where she represents a range of clients. She has also represented and worked with organizations like Baltimore Neighborhoods, Inc., the National Federation of the Blind, and the United Workers. Her pro bono activities involve assistance with the Homeless Persons Representation Project and representation of community associations before the Baltimore Board of Liquor License Commissioners. She has been named a Rising Star by The Daily Record, and was recently named one of Baltimore magazine's "40 Under 40." Brooke is a graduate of Dartmouth College and the University of Texas School of Law. She lives in Fell’s Point with her husband Eben Hansel and young son.

David H. Milton
David H. Milton is Director of Marketing for BGE, and has more than 20 years' experience working in the field of communications, brand and marketing in the global telecommunications and energy sectors. At BGE, David is responsible for leading B2B and B2C marketing for a wide range of energy efficiency, demand response and smart grid-enabled programs in addition to safety, reliability and an array of other customer engagement initiatives. He previously held the position of Director of International Marketing for MCI and Verizon Business. As a Hong Kong-based expatriate David held responsibility for Asia Pacific product marketing and management for a $500M revenue stream, as well as regional strategic communications and media relations covering 11 countries. He went on to lead the company’s marketing and brand efforts for Latin America and Canada. David is a graduate of the University of South Carolina.

Adam Pendleton
Adam Pendleton is a New York-based artist whose work examines and questions the freedom of abstraction in relationship to language, politics, and identity. He has been featured twice in Forbes Magazine’s “30 Under 30” list. In 2012, Pendleton signed with Pace Gallery at age 28, the youngest artist to do so since the 1970s. A major solo exhibition of Pendleton’s work, Becoming Imperceptible, was recently presented at the Contemporary Arts Center New Orleans, the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver, and Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland. A selection of Pendleton’s paintings, collages, and screenprints are currently being shown in the BMA’s Front Room Gallery. His work is represented in numerous museum and private collections worldwide, including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York; the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Studio Museum in Harlem, New York; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego; the Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh; and Tate Modern, London.

Scott Schelle
Scott Schelle and has spent nearly 30 years developing and bringing to market the latest in mobile communications technologies and products. Schelle co-founded several businesses in Baltimore with American Personal Communications, LLC, the predecessor of Sprint PCS, being the most prominent. He has held leadership positions with Verizon Wireless and TMobile USA, where he led strategic planning and go-to market activities in public Wi-Fi, mobile security, and mobile payments. Schelle is currently the president of Tasman Technologies, a consulting firm specializing in strategy, business planning, and business and technology development for the mobile industry. Schelle graduated from the Gilman School in Baltimore and Loyola University Maryland. He lives in Baltimore.

Wilma Bulkin Siegel
Wilma Bulkin Siegel, M.D., has had a distinguished career as a prominent oncologist in New York, and established one of the first hospices in the state of New York, and one of the first to accept AIDS patients. In the capacity of medical director of that hospice she was asked to give her expertise on AIDS to the Presidential Commission in Washington. Following her retirement Siegel studied painting at the National Academy of Design in New York. She has exhibited her work throughout the country, and has been featured on CNN for her paintings on AIDS. Her current passion is to bring art into the medical field as an educational tool and a forum for healing. She is a member of advisory councils at Columbia University Medical Center, New York, and the College of Nursing and Health Professionals at Drexel University, Philadelphia. She was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters and was the commencement speaker at Drexel in 2006. In 2009, she was awarded the highest honor for contributions to the field of arts in healthcare, the Janice Palmer Award of the Society for the Arts in Healthcare. Siegel graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, and received her medical degree at Woman’s Medical College of Pennsylvania.
