AMSTERDAM.- Gallery Persoon in the Netherlands and the event decorators of Oogenlust present a retrospective exhibition of Dutch photographic artist Hans Withoos. The gallery shows sixty colorful photographs, with also his latest creations. The exhibition 'Photographic Paintings' runs from 19 May until 11 July 2020 at Domain Oogenlust in Eersel.

Hans Withoos is a romanticist and storyteller, fascinated by beauty in all its aspects. His work is multi-layered, with carefully staged images and an idiosyncratic aesthetics. The exhibition focusses on his 'Withoos meets Withoos' series. The photographer combines still lifes and landscapes of the Dutch 17th century painter Matthias Withoos with his own contemporary and surrealistic images.

Matthias Withoos (1627–1703), born in Amersfoort and also known as 'Calzetta Bianca', is a distant relative of Hans Withoos. As a painter he is known for his cityscapes and Italianate landscapes, with insects, reptiles and undergrowth. He followed his training with Jacob van Campen, a Dutch painter and architect of the Golden Age.

Hans Withoos (Son en Breugel, 1962) studied textile design and photography at the Academy of Visual Arts in Tilburg. He is based in Rotterdam and worked as a photographer for over thirty years, received international recognition and exhibits frequently. Withoos has made high-profile work for modern ballet company Introdans and Orange Babies foundation.

The extensive oeuvre of Hans Withoos has been bundled in the book 'Photographic Paintings' (2017). In 2018, the Westfries Museum in Hoorn presented a solo exhibition 'Withoos meets Withoos' with the launch of an eponymous photo book. The autonomous work of the inspired artist has been presented at leading art fairs such as the KunstRAI, PAN Amsterdam and Scope Miami. His work can be found in private collections worldwide.
