EDINBURGH.- Lyon & Turnbull, Scotland’s oldest auction room will be selling a collection of textiles from the renowned collector Paul Reeves on the 23rd February 2017 in Edinburgh.

It has been a 50 year passion for Paul Reeves, starting when he was a young and influential clothes designer in London in the 1960s. The pieces in the sale which range from £200 - £20,000, have been chosen from his collection, spanning some 100 plus years of Textile Design.

The forthcoming auction at Lyon & Turnbull is a determined aim to establish Textile Art rightly alongside the Fine Arts. All the pieces come from Paul Reeves in Cirencester, and they will be presented in a manner which makes them eminently usable and ready to hang, many frame and with others mounted to display with great effect in either a modern or period setting.

There will be examples of work from 1840, leading through to Arts & Crafts artists featuring William Morris, Walter Crane and C.F.A. Voysey. The early 20th century will feature work by artists such as Raoul Dufy and Barron & Larcher, whilst the 50’s and 60s have examples by artists such as Susan Bosence and Alan Reynolds and with embroideries by artist such as Beryl Dean, who studied at The Royal School of Needlework and was later awarded a Royal Exhibition to the Royal College of Art. The 1970s will have works by Joy Clucas of the 62 Group and the Manchester Embroiderers' Guild.

Highlights from the sale include a rare linen panel designed by Frank Lloyd Wright £800-1200; a silk crepe, hand blocked print by Vorticist artist Wyndham Lewis for The Omega Workshops, circa 1914, £800-£1200; and a suite of embroidered hangings by the Scottish Arts & Crafts designer Sir Robert Lorimer (£18,000-22,000).

Reeves began collecting furniture and related items over fifty years ago at the age of fifteen, opening his first antiques shop in Battersea Bridge Road in 1976, dealing in objects from the 19th and 20th centuries.

Today his business continues from his Cirencester premises where he works closely with major private and institutional clients around the world.
