Esports has been developing by leaps and bounds lately. Many gamers watch tournaments
, streams, guides. But nobody gets deep in thought that this sphere has a lot of problems which nobody wants to solve and which are preferred to be ignored. So, let’s examine them one by one.
On the one hand, it is good as these movements gather huge prize pools. But on the other hand, it kills games. Let’s take a look at Steam, or even Valve’s policy about donation. We are talking about five dollars a player has to get on the wallet of the platform to use all its opportunities. We presume that it is not big money, but why should it be forced? As not all people have extra five dollars. And in the end, the person that didn’t contribute the money cannot friend anyone. It is sheer nonsense.
Big money spoils people and as for esportsmen, it kills their motivation. Please note, that if anyone wins one major tournament, at the next one their result is significantly worse. Only a few teams are exceptions here, but they are still going to experience it. Players get also huge salaries along with the prize money. The idea of having your own thing is right, but the logic is simple, why should you strive to achieve new tops if you have delicious food and you can afford to do what you want, you are popular and the money is enough for the rest of life.
Strange as it may seem, but tournaments also have their problems
Let’s compare tournament brackets in esports with the ones in regular sports. Why should you give a chance to win to the teams after their loss in the group? Why should you give them a chance to lose intentionally to fit in and not to meet with strong opponents at the next stage? Many top teams do that running from each other till the semifinal or even till the final itself.
Let teams sweat from the start till the end, from the first game till the last one – this way games will be more spectacular and effective. And it is easy to do. We just have to get rid of groups and let the teams play in a mere bracket. The final will hold the meeting of the best, the two teams who have not lost any game at the tournament. As for the losers, you can do the following. Those teams that lost against the finalists will have to fight with each other but only for the third place. And it will be right. You got relaxed, lost - now you can fight but only for Top 3. By the way, this system will increase significance of the three-step pedestal. All prize places will be appreciated, not only the first one.
Teams and their names
It is not right that the rights for names are held by the organization. It’s better to keep them separated. It means, that the organization should have one name while the roster is known by another one. But here the situation is double-barrelled. On the one hand, it will lead to a huge chaos, on the other hand, hearts of fans will come to peace. As at first many fans have associations with players, and after that with the organization. Let’s analyze NaVi’s situation. The team was remembered by everybody when they became the best in the world. Many people consider NaVi
to be Puppey, XBOCT and Dendi. So are they the Na’Vi if there is no one of the players left in the roster? At least add the year of the team – it will be better. As esports is not football, despite the transfer – it will not be the same. Why should it adapt itself instead of adding something new?
Ill-defined rules and toxic community
We should give a credit to organizers of tournaments – they have been doing great lately. But again, there is not any clear-cut laws on the statute book in esports. And it is bad, especially for people’s behaviour. What can we say about regular players when even professionals let themselves talk tough about their game partners. And many people just ignore it. In the first case Mind Control was felt sorry for, now Ceb has repeated the situation. Can’t the complete esportsman codex be created to be followed by?
We want to believe that esports has come to our world for a long time, that these are the games that unite our world and they are to release people from disagreements. But the problems described above can kill it, and rather fast.
