LONDON.- This year has seen tremendous shifts in the Asian art world.
This panel brings together leading specialists from across the world to explore pressing questions at this unique historical moment. What are the opportunities and challenges facing museum curators? What are the new trends in the South Asian art market? How has covid-19 impacted both museums and the market for South Asian Art? How are online interactions changing the ways we curate and share museum collections? The panellists will discuss their current projects and how they are responding to the technological and cultural changes of 2020.

Anuradha Ghosh-Mazumdar
Senior Vice President & Senior International Specialist, Head of Department, Indian & Southeast Asian Art, Sotheby’s New York
Ms. Anuradha Ghosh-Mazumdar was appointed Head of the Indian & Southeast Asian Art department in New York in 2011. She joined Sotheby’s in 2003 as a Specialist for both Classical as well as Modern Indian art. Over the past 16 years she has played a key role in securing major consignments for Sotheby’s sales of Indian, Himalayan & Southeast Asian Art and Modern and Contemporary South Asian Art held in Asia, Europe and the United States. She has also built and nurtured many of Sotheby’s key client relationships in these markets, particularly in North America, a task she continues to perform in addition to her managerial duties as Department Head in New York. She has lectured widely on the South Asian art market at both private and public forums.
Abha Housego
Senior Vice President, International Head of UK, Europe and Middle East, Saffronart London
Ms. Abha Housego is Senior Vice President at Saffronart and heads the auction house in the UK, Europe and Middle East. She joined the company in 2007 and was responsible for opening their gallery in London in 2008, as well as expanding their presence in Europe and the Middle East. She is a specialist in modern and contemporary Indian art and has spearheaded many of Saffronart's most successful sales including the flagship online summer sale. She combines her specialist roles with business development. Besides authoring articles on Indian art, she has sat on a variety of panels revolving around Indian art and the art market. She has also pioneered the inclusion of art from Pakistan and other South Asian countries in the Saffronart auction calendar.
Imma Ramos
Curator of South Asia, The British Museum, London
Dr Imma Ramos is responsible for the medieval to modern South Asia collections at the British Museum. She curated the forthcoming exhibition, Tantra: Enlightenment to Revolution (24 September 2020 – 24 January 2021), and is the author of its accompanying book which presents the first historical exploration of Tantric visual culture from its origins in India to its reimagining in the West. Her research interests revolve around the relationship between religion, politics and gender in South Asian visual culture.
Emily Shovelton
Convenor of the Indian Art Module, SOAS Postgraduate Diploma in Asian Art Research Associate at the Khalili Research Centre, University of Oxford
Dr Emily Shovelton is a specialist in art from the Islamic world and Persianate culture across South Asia. She completed her PhD at SOAS in 2009 whilst working as an Assistant Curator at the British Museum. She has been course tutor for the India and Islamic modules of the SOAS Postgraduate Diploma in Asian Art for several years, as well as tutoring for Victoria and Albert Museum’s Asian Art diploma and lecturing for a number of other courses. She has contributed to a forthcoming volume from the Nasser D. Khalili Collection of Islamic Art, Tale and Image: Illustrated manuscripts and album paintings from Iran, Turkey and Egypt. She recently organised a symposium on the art of the Indian sultanates at Wolfson College, Oxford.
