“The Little Girl with the Red Balloon” by Banksy's is one of his most famous artistic productions. It was produced in 2002 in London in full view of passers-by. In this artwork, everyone can see a little girl standing alone in a dress with some balloons. She stretches out her arms towards a red heart-shaped balloon. To the right, we can see an inscription “THERE IS ALWAYS HOPE” which means “there is always hope”.

It is arguably Banksy's most iconic work of art. Behind the little girl dropping her balloon, on the stairs to the right, is inscribed in chalk, the following message "There Is Always Hope" (There is always hope). One of Banksy's graffiti came first in the ranking of the 20 best British works of art published this Wednesday 26. Called Girl with Balloon, it shows a little girl releasing a balloon in the shape of a heart, a work of art which is one of the artist's most popular works. Stenciled like most of his works, this design was painted in 2002 on the facade of a London store. But in recent years, the English and tourists can no longer admire it: in 2014, it was detached from the wall to be auctioned, which was bought for 500,000 pounds, or around 560,000 euros.

That year, Banksy had also hijacked his work on the occasion of the third anniversary of the Syrian conflict, considered to be the "most serious humanitarian crisis of the 21st century". To show his support for the victims of the war in Syria, he, therefore, resumed his work by adding a veil on the child's head. As part of the #WithSyria campaign, led by Amnesty International, Oxfam, and Reporters without Borders, the artist also created a video on the theme of the little girl with the ball.
