LANNION.- L’Imagerie is launched "À vol d'oiseau" (Bird's-Eye View), a traveling photography exhibition exploring humanity's fascination with birds through the lens. This initiative is part of the "Les Rayons" (The Rays) outreach program, a multi-year project (2023-2025) aimed at democratizing access to photography and contemporary art in rural and peri-urban areas, while also preparing for L'Imagerie's relocation in 2025.

For centuries, birds, with their diverse appearances and lifestyles, have captivated scientists and enthusiasts alike. Before the advent of color photography, drawing and engraving were the primary means of representing them, as exemplified by John James Audubon's famous work, Birds of America. The arrival of color photography in the 20th century marked a turning point, paving the way for specialized photographers like Eliot Porter.

The "À vol d'oiseau" exhibition highlights the complex relationship we have with these creatures, both familiar and wild. Whether domestic, common, or exotic, birds are an integral part of our environment. Their ability to fly, making them elusive, has contributed to their status as prime photographic subjects.

"Les Rayons" aims to reduce geographical inequalities in access to culture. The "À vol d'oiseau" exhibition, specifically designed for this program, is modular and itinerant. It travels throughout Trégor and the Côtes d'Armor department, setting up for one to four weeks in various partner locations: schools, hospitals, community centers, media libraries, etc.

Recognizing the logistical challenges of exhibiting artwork in non-dedicated spaces, L'Imagerie commissioned designer Brendan Cornic (a graduate of EESAB Brest) to create an adaptable museum display system. Inspired by construction toys, this wooden system allows for a wide variety of arrangements, ensuring a unique experience at each stop. The simplicity of the assembly even encourages public participation.

Two printed visitor guides have been created to accompany the exhibition. One, intended for the general public, features reproductions of the works and explanatory notes. The other, designed for children by illustrator Amélie Fontaine, explores the artworks, photographic concepts, and bird-related anecdotes.

Each iteration of the exhibition is enhanced by outreach activities, including guided tours and artistic workshops led by L'Imagerie's public programs coordinator. "À vol d'oiseau" thus offers an accessible and enriching cultural experience for all audiences, at the heart of the region.
