SIENA.- The groundbreaking exhibition “Julio Le Parc: The Discovery of Perception” is now on view at the historic Palazzo delle Papesse in Siena, Italy. Running until March 16, 2025, this major retrospective celebrates over 60 years of the celebrated Argentine artist’s career and is the most comprehensive solo exhibition of his work ever held in Italy.

A Journey Through Perception

Featuring more than 80 works, the exhibition offers an immersive exploration of Julio Le Parc’s pioneering contributions to kinetic and optical art. Visitors can engage with his dynamic creations, which challenge traditional notions of static art by emphasizing movement, light, and viewer interaction.

Explore books and monographs that delve into Julio Le Parc’s artistic journey.

Highlights of the exhibition include:

• “Sphere Verte” (2016): This striking suspended sculpture of green plexiglass tesserae reflects light in dynamic patterns, transforming the entryway of Palazzo delle Papesse.

• Kinetic Light Installations: Iconic works such as Continuel Lumière Mobile and Continuel Lumière Boîte n. 3, which use light and movement to create mesmerizing, ever-changing displays.

• Vivid Color Studies: Paintings and sculptures that showcase Le Parc’s use of a 14-color spectrum to form evolving geometries and vibrant compositions, exemplified by pieces like Ondes 139 Série 47 n. 8.

A Unique Artistic Philosophy

Le Parc’s work is rooted in experimentation and innovation, exploring the relationship between art and perception. His goal is to distance the artist’s hand from the artwork, focusing instead on geometric forms and audience interaction. “The aim is to remove traces of manual fabrication and subjective composition, creating an artwork that engages directly with the viewer,” Le Parc has stated.

An Immersive Experience

Set against the backdrop of the 15th-century Palazzo delle Papesse, the exhibition creates a captivating dialogue between the artist’s modern experiments and the building’s historic frescoed interiors. The result is a unique fusion of past and present that amplifies the impact of Le Parc’s vibrant works.

The exhibition invites visitors to interact with the art, offering opportunities to explore how light, color, and movement alter perception. Each piece transforms as the observer shifts perspective, creating a constantly evolving experience.

A Must-See Event

Organized by Opera Laboratori and curated by Marcella Beccaria in collaboration with Julio Le Parc and his studio director Yamil Le Parc, the exhibition promises to be an unforgettable journey into one of the most influential artistic minds of the 20th and 21st centuries.

Visitors are encouraged to immerse themselves in the vibrant world of “Julio Le Parc: The Discovery of Perception” and experience firsthand the transformative power of light, movement, and creativity. Don’t miss the opportunity to see this extraordinary exhibition currently on display at Palazzo delle Papesse.
