Important monumental pair of Sevres porcelain palace urns, French, 19th century. Sold for $240,000.



GLEN COVE, NY.- The much talked about very rare Important Pair of Sevres Palace Urns took center stage at Roland Auctions NY Multi-Estates auction on Saturday, March 8th, selling for a whopping $240,000 to a long-standing Roland customer in France, bringing the urns back home again.

This monumental pair of Sevres porcelain palace urns, French, 19th century, featured vasiform elaborated decorated with bands of blooming flowers, Greek key and acanthus details, and large swags of ripe fruit and blooming flowers, centered by bronze dore figure heads Baccchus, all resting on square gilded plinth, [32.5" H x 17.25" W x 14.75" D]. A Similar pair similar pair sold at Bonhams in December 2023.

Roland’s auction had offerings from several prominent and noteworthy estates, bringing together elements of New York City’s theatrical and art world past, with other top sellers being in Decorative Arts and Fine Art.

In the art arena, an After Brueghel or Rubens: Madonna – Painting, Palatial painting on panel depicting "Madonna in Floral Wreath", after Jan Brueghel the Elder (Belgian, 1577-1640) or Peter Paul Rubens (Flemish, 1568-1625), in an ornate gilt frame. [Frame: 71" H x 40" W] Sold for $18,200, while an After Titian: Venus with Mirror – Painting Palatial allegorical painting on panel depicting Venus and putti, in ornate gilt frame. [Frame: 71" H x 40" W]. In good condition. Sold for $16,900.


Jean Dufy (French 1888-1964 ) Au Cabaret watercolor and gouache Sold for $16,900.

A Jean Dufy (French 1888-1964 ) "Au Cabaret" watercolor and gouache depicting figures dancing alongside a band; signed "Jean Dufy" to lower right. [Sight: 17.25" H x 22" W, frame: 28.5" H x 33" W]. Overall good condition with minor wear or discoloration near the lower left side matte edge and minor spots to the lower right above the signature. Property of an important NY philanthropic family, sold for $16,900, a Betty Parsons (American, 1900-1982): "Love at Sea" (1975) - Signed W/C, original abstract watercolor in blue, pink, and ochre titled "Love at Sea". Pencil signed and dated lower right, 1975. Signed, dated, and titled to reverse board. In plexi frame. [Sheet: 12" H x 9" W; Frame: 14" H x 10.5" W], sold for $11, 050 and an After Amedeo Modigliani: "Le Grand Nu" - O/C, Framed oil on canvas painting after Amedeo Modigliani (Italian, 1884-1920), of a reclining nude woman. [Art: 24" H x 48" W; Frame: 40" H x 64" W], went for $5, 525.


Patrick Mavros Sterling Silver Candelabrum, unusual sterling silver figural candelabrum. Sold for $16,900.

Topping the silver was a Patrick Mavros pair of unusual sterling silver figural candelabra one of elephant mothers and calves with mopane, Zimbabwean, 1998, total 56 ozt., the other of two elephants with mopane, Zimbabwean, 1998, total 69 ozt., mark to base and bobeches. [12" H x 8.25" W x 4.5"], which went for $16,900 and a pair of Tiffany & Co. Sterling Silver Monkey Candlesticks, Ubaldo Vitali for Tiffany & Co. pair of sterling silver singerie figural candlesticks of monkey butlers with tray, designed 1976, total 54 ozt. marks to base [6" H x 4" W x 4.5" D], sold for $5,525.


Pair of Louis XV Gilt Bronze Figural Candelabra, French, 19th century, Sold for $11,700.

In Decorative Arts, a Pair of Louis XV gilt bronze figural candelabra, French, 20th century, depicting Aphrodite with Cupid holding aloft a torchiere of 10 candle holders, decorated with scrolling acanthus motifs and berries. [41" H x 15" Diameter], sold for $11,700 and a Pair of palatial Louis XVI bronze dore eight light sconces, circa 19th century, with a central winged bust of a women, likely Nike, and a laurel decoration. [54" H x 14.5" W x 14" D], went for $4550.


Christian Dior Dyed Mink and Fox Fur Coat. Sold for $3,900.

Other notable lost included a Christian Dior Dyed Mink and Fox Fur Coat, Christian Dior dyed and printed mink and fox fur coat with silver leather details, and a batwing sleeve; one inner pocket, no closure; marked Christian Dior, Made in France to label. [Neck to hem: 55", chest: 42" approx., sleeve: 19" approx., note that measurements depend upon the wearer as this is designed as a flowy coat]. Provenance: From the Estate of Baroness Gabriele Langer von Langendorff, selling for $3,900.


Niels Otto Moeller Model 71 Teak Side Chairs, 8, Six, Mid-Century Modern teak and faux leather side chairs. Sold for $1800.

And, in Mid Century Modern furniture, a set of Niels Otto Moeller Model 71 Teak Side Chairs, 8, Six, Mid-Century Modern teak and faux leather side chairs, mark to underside frame J.L Moeller. [30.5" H x 19.5" W x 17.5" D; seat height 18"], sold for $3575.
