EDINBURGH.- Last year, driven by the extraordinary circumstances of the Covid-19 pandemic, the RSA hosted the Annual Exhibition entirely online. Over 28,000 visitors viewed the exhibition and hundreds of artworks were sold.

Following on from last year’s success, this year the exhibition includes even more video, image-based and written content, providing fascinating insights into the practices of artists working throughout Scotland.

This year a panel of Royal Scottish Academicians has selected works for the RSA Open Exhibitions of Art and Architecture. With works submitted from all over the world and in a vast range of media, the exhibition is both diverse and thought-provoking, including works by both established names and emerging artists.

Co-convenors Delia Baillie RSA and Jessica Harrison RSA, assisted by Deputy Convenor Neil Gillespie RSA, were tasked with bringing together a wide array of contemporary painting, sculpture, film, printmaking, photography and installation, alongside work by some of the country’s leading architects.

Many works are available to purchase. Income raised in the Annual Exhibition directly assists artists and the not-for-profit work of the RSA.

Director Colin Greenslade says: 'The RSA Annual Exhibition is now in its 195th year and has a long tradition as the oldest surviving open platform for artists in Scotland. For the second year running, as a direct result of Covid and limitations to all our daily lives, we must present it once again as an online exhibition. Challenges aside, very little gets in the way of us showcasing this annual event and the 2021 show heralds springtime in Scotland with as much oomph and gusto as we would expect. Representing the terrific range of work by artists who have been busy in their studios throughout lockdown, this show is as uplifting and exciting as you would hope for after such a long winter.'
