NEW YORK, NY.- Thierry Goldberg Gallery is pleased to present Un Solo Cuerpo, an online exhibition of works by Lola Erhart. The exhibition will be on view from November 18th to December 16th, 2023.
Un Solo Cuerpo presents a rumination on the female figure as an ambidextrous signifier: of motherhood, of sexuality, of comfort, of capability. Erharts gestural brush strokes create a writhing denouncement of space and time; it is this ephemeral revision of space that underscores the empathy with which she captures her subjects. This exploration of feminine physicality bestows an undeniable honesty to Erharts work, proffering viewers a novel conception of a passionate, tempestuous womanhood.
Erhart skillfully merges fleeting spatial constructs with spiritual realism in Flor con pantalon a rayas. Against a dynamically shifting grey backdrop, a woman reclines on a vividly upholstered wooden chair. The vertical stripes of her red and white pants accentuate her sturdy posture, extending her realm of commandment from the painting's virtual realm to the observer. Anchored by her firmly planted feet on the rich, dark floral rug, she dons a flowing purple robe, casually exposing her chest the fabric cascading like a cape. Her relaxed demeanor radiates a serene competence, harmonizing with the background's abstract energy to create an emotionally lucid composition.
Pili y Libertad delves into the intricate attributes of maternal connection. A bare woman, cradling a weeping infant at her side, materializes within a nebulous shroud of teal mist. The ethereal tendrils encircling them disrupt and corrode the corporeal realism of their forms. At points of contact between mother and child, a seamless fusion occurs, rendering them indistinguishable, as though melded into a singular entity. Erhart's masterful composition orchestrates a tribute that navigates the candid complexities of this bond, simultaneously reverent and unfiltered in its depiction of the relationship's inherent beauty.
Erharts construction of a faceted and raw femininity emerges from the paintings of Un Solo Cuerpo. Her mediations impress the viewer with a deeper sense of empathy and understanding, challenging preconceived notions and inviting contemplation on the multifaceted nature of womanhood. In doing so, Erhart invites us to explore the nuanced connections between physicality, emotion, and societal expectations, ultimately fostering a richer dialogue about the diverse experiences of women.
