Carefully Approach Rug Patterns to Make the Most of Them

Most UK homes are modern, vintage, Scandinavian, Boho, or contemporary. Modern interiors emerged in the early or middle 19th century with their simplicity and innovative functionality. Scandi-style homes became attractive for their relaxed energy and arrangements for plenty of natural light. Vintage designs remind you of life in the 1940s and 1950s, where colours, patterns, and personal touches mean the world. Contemporary, you know, is more about trends. In Boho houses, interiors are a combination of laidback and quirky elements. Every interior style is unique. How you arrange patterns and colours plays a considerable role. Since rugs are often a critical part of the décor, you can leverage their patterns to contribute to your home's larger design scheme.

A patterned area rug reflects a specific type of artistic sensibility. While it's fun playing with patterns, you must follow fundamental principles to make them work for your décor and not against it. If you master this, you can explore all the varieties hassle-free. Even contrasting patterns can be adopted without hesitation. You can dig into stripes, swirls, and zigs and zags in diverse palettes. Here are a few suggestions to help you pick the right thing for your home.

Neutrals
A common painting technique most painters follow is applying toned or solid colour to the canvas and building their pictures from there. So, when you add a patterned rug to a room, you can keep window treatments and furniture in neutral shades. These features will allow the carpet to draw attention without appearing overwhelming. Some people put patterned rugs over neutral carpets to create a layering effect that feels warm. Hence, it’s another trick anyone can employ.

Colour synchronisation
Whether heavy or light, rug patterns define your room’s character, demanding attention to every detail contained in them. The choice of colours in those patterns can be an essential part. Suppose you pick a bold blue coloured rug for your living space. Ensure that similar tones are replicated through other features, including flower vases, lampshades, chairs, etc. Or, a neutral room can benefit from grey and white patterned rugs. The core idea is to create cohesiveness in the décor so there is a certain amount of visual discipline. Things will not look messy or out-of-order.

Pattern selection
Easy access to various beautiful patterns tempts you to add more to the same room. Please note that the heavy use of patterns can create a dizzying impact in the room. It would help if you went easy with them. The design must connect with other elements if you add a patterned rug in a specific corner. Colours can come in handy here. Suppose you select a carpet with a chevron print. The curtains in the room must match the rug's shade. Some homeowners like to be liberal with pattern choices and enjoy the chaotic effect. While this satisfies their taste, you may practice restraint if you prefer sophisticated décor themes.

Remember, everything comes down to what feeling you want to generate in a given space. Choose rugs with flowing patterns if you expect the bedroom to have a dreamy touch. Busy kitchens can use rugs with playful designs.
